Custom sewing and Alterations

I offer quality alterations with your budget in mind. I’ll always try to suggest options that save money and extend the life of your clothing. For example, with kids’ clothes, I often leave extra fabric in the hem or seams to allow room for growth.

I am a minimalist seamstress- out of principle,  My goal is always to recommend the least invasive alterations that will achieve the best fit and preserve the integrity of your garment. This often means I alter in unconventional ways.  If you’re looking to completely redesign a garment, a couture-like fit or significantly change its silhouette, I am not the seamstress for you. I’d rather be honest from the beginning than take on a project that may not give you the result you’re hoping for.

All genders, body shapes and sizes welcome.   Inclusive and affirming — everyone is welcome here.

• I do not alter wedding dresses.  
• I do not alter bodices of formal dresses or redesign dresses.
• If possible and appropriate, prewash and dry garments new garments before your fitting to avoid shrinkage after altering. 
• For fittings, bring the shoes and undergarments you plan to wear with the outfit—especially for dresses or pants. I will not measure a formal dress without them.
• If you show up to a fitting without proper shoes or undergarments, I will decline to fit you and will not provide any advice on alterations needed for your garment. 
• Pant hems only- If you choose to mark your own pants, I will alter to the marks provided.  In that case, I am not responsible for the final fit of the garment. 
• Formal dresses alterations require at least 3 weeks notice.   If at least 3 weeks notice is not provided, a rush fee of 50% of the final fee may apply, subject to my discretion.  A rush fee is charged only when I have to reschedule other alterations or if I must plan for overtime hours to complete the job. 
• I will not alter dirty garments for the protection of my clients and my machines (including hockey jerseys).  Please make sure you properly clean items before bringing them to me. Dirty items will be returned unaltered.

• Basic repair that takes less than 5 minutes- Free (first item only)
• Basic pant hem (machine): $10
• Euro hem on jeans (original hem): $15
• Dress pant hem (blind hem, machine): $10
• Dress hem (single layer): starting at $40 (depending on skirt width)
• Install corset back on formal dress $50 plus cost of corset kit
• All other alterations will be quoted following a fitting appointment.  Cost is based on time and complexity of the alteration and is based on a shop rate of $30/hr.

Fittings are by appointment only on Monday evenings in my studio in Stittsville. Location  details will be provided upon booking.

Each fall, I sew hockey name bars and donate 50% of proceeds to a local charity. For 2025, I donated $1156 to Rock Out for Jack.
